Dinner with Jenny Fielding, Managing Partner of Everywhere Ventures
It was an absolute pleasure to host Jenny Fielding, Managing Partner of Everywhere Ventures, at NY Icons in New York! β π₯ π
A huge thank you to Jenny for making the time to meet with us and for sharing her invaluable insights! π Her global vision for the future of entrepreneurship and investment is truly inspiring, and her cross-border investment strategy is a testament to that! π
Wanted to share a few takeaways below:
π‘ Jenny started her first company to solve a problem, not to launch a startup. She describes these types of founders as βempath founders.β
πΈ Companies are facing challenges due to higher valuation demands. More capital means more opportunity, but it also led to a situation where almost anyone could get funded.
π Companies are focusing on becoming cash flow positive, breaking even, or raising incremental bridge rounds to survive.
π₯ Most founders are intensely obsessed, often to the detriment of their health and personal relationships. Their obsession can lead to intense micromanagement, making it hard for them to loosen control.
π©βπ» There are persistent double standards for female founders, and a shift in perception and treatment is needed.
π Building networks with founders and investors in emerging markets helps identify and evaluate investment opportunities. Founders in emerging markets are known for their capital efficiency and resilience.
π Thereβs a trend in the venture ecosystem favoring lean, efficient companies that grow without needing large amounts of traditional VC funding.
π Itβs crucial to invest in founders with a big vision and the ability to adapt quickly. Those with resilience and vision often attract repeat investments.
π While not impact investors, Everywhere Ventures prioritizes companies that do good. Jenny has emphasized the important of investing in healthcare, climate, and international markets.
π» Everywhere Ventures uses automation tools and Slack channels to stay connected with a large number of portfolio companies. It has deconstructed traditional VC practices and created efficient, community-driven funds through automation and streamlined processes.
As always, shout out to my bestie β Ben Gusberg β for being the best co-host and my bestie! π
